Astrid
Astrid holds a Diplôme in International Economics and passed her baccalaureate in Paris with Mention Très Bien. She has lived and taught around the world and has spent many years tutoring French and Spanish using a Montessori-informed, mastery-based approach that meets students where they are and advances them only once they have truly mastered each level. She homeschooled her own children and has experience supporting both gifted learners and students with learning differences, including managing IEPs and adapting lessons so students stay engaged without feeling pushed. Her lessons weave language with culture, helping learners connect vocabulary and grammar to real places and traditions across the Spanish- and French-speaking world. Families appreciate her patience, practical strategies, and knack for making language learning interactive and meaningful. She treasures a handmade book families gave her as the most meaningful recognition of her work and, when she is not teaching, she spends time painting, enjoying chocolate, and cuddling her basset hound Pluto.

i do meet my students at the level where they are and together we build up. I always work on success method, i believe that when learning something new it should be exciting and the children should master each level before moving up. so i go around with multiple different alternatives just to get them to master each level of the language that we are learning.
This method is Montessori based and it has given me excellent results with little ones.
Also AP students, because it makes them slow down and process the rate of success increases when the student has mastered the language and is able to really understan all the nuances that each foreign language has.

I did my studies abroad I do have a Diplome on International Economics from the Universidad Mayor in Spain which is the most recent one (1997)
i passed my bac in Paris in 1984 Mention TRES BIEN

I am married and have 4 children. MY husband and I moved because of his work a lot around the world. i came to live in the USA over 25 years ago. Since then I have been tutoring French and Spanish.
I love teaching. My children are all multilingual, I believe that this gives you an advantage in today's world. So globalized and with so much information coming to our children in the media.
They have much more access to travel around the worls and share experiences.
Subject Expertise

My mission
Teach not only a Language but engage my students in the cultural aspects and hopefully get that curiosity going so they will continue to explore the world that surround us.
Get them involved with cultural aspects of different Spanish speaking Countries.
Chile for example is very different from Argentina or Bolivia and they are all neighbors in South America.
They all speak Spanish, yes! but with quite very different cultural aspects. Which students normally find very interesting, Like for example the Altitude when you arrive to La Paz and people get (apunado) or lack of oxygen... it passes but this is something that is particular to Bolivia. Also Bolivia has Cochabamba where the weather is absolutely Tropical! ect.

My Story
Today I live with my husband and our youngest son a senior in High school. We live in Chicago in the northern suburbs near the beautiful Lake Michigan.
We have travel to many countries with our family.
I have lived I believe all over the world.
Among my favorite Countries, I have to say that Australia takes the first prize!
We lived by a beach called Coogee Beach next to a natural conservation Park that we walk, through the path to get straight to the beach every day.
In the mornings we had beautiful bird of every color on our balcony.
In Down Under nobody bothers or kills animals. So animals are very friendly with us they don't feel threaten by humans.
Not even the mama Kangaroos with their joeys, because of course we respect their space.
It's a magic country with wonderful people.
our third daughter was born in Sydney for the millennium and 2000 was the dream!!!
I hope i didn't bored you much with my old lady stories. ;-)
Cognitive Diversity
How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs. As I said previously I do have 4 children. I have been very lucky in my life to be able to continue preparing myself in any subject that has caught my interest.
Among my children my oldest one is a gifted girl, she arrived to Japan and in 8 months she was reading and writing kanjis also speaking Japanese. her first language is French but she's an English major under grad witha masters of English education. She graduated High school with 15 college credits and finish first pre-med honors school before going into English.
This type of child requires a lot of listening to meet them and keep up with their pace. they are very fast learners, but sometimes maturity doesn't follow so they need a very structure academic enviroment.
I also have a daughter with learning dissabilities. I handle IEP's ., I know how to meet the needs and avoid frustrations , I know how not to ever push the limits, so my students love "playing the learning games with me" because it never gets booring.
I keep children engage through games of high speed so i don't loose their attention and we go back and forward up until they learn their concepts.
Our son learned Spanish through a dual immersion program in school. It took him all of his elementary years, middle school, and high school to master the language. When he decided to take French in high school, we knew he would need a tutor because one class a day of French wouldn’t be enough for him to truly learn the new language. We were fortunate to find Astrid, who speaks several languages fluently, with French being one of her native languages. Astrid has been working with our son for more than two years, and we couldn’t be more satisfied with her work. She brings a luminous and bright attitude to each of her classes, giving our son a sense of confidence in the language. Astrid prepares each lesson with our son’s needs in mind, focusing on the next step in his learning journey. Thanks to the excellent work she performs our son ended up with a second bilaterally seal in French! (the first one in Spanish for all his years in a dual language program). There’s no better language teacher for our son. Thank you, Astrid, for being a part of our lives! Her level of energy, positive vibes, level of knowledge of the language and commitment to our son’s learning journey.
