Courtney
Courtney is a bubbly and fun educator with 11 years of experience teaching 5th-12th graders and now homeschooling her own children. She specializes in English Language Arts, Math, Algebra, Latin, and Spanish, and is skilled at tutoring students with dyslexia and dysgraphia. Her approach involves challenging students to use their personal talents to solve problems in their own unique ways, often connecting lessons to their interests like Legos or M&Ms. She enjoys running, kayaking, reading, and playing the piano.

I am available most weekday afternoons (all except Tuesday) and some evenings. Completely unavailable on Sundays.

I'm bubbly and like to joke and have fun because I truly believe learning is a gift! I also love to challenge children to use their personal talents and ways of figuring out problems--even if it would go against the normal "textbook" way of tackling a problem.

BA in English from Thomas Edison State University

I have 11 years of teaching experience in both classroom settings and online/private tutoring. The age groups have ranged from 5th-12th grade. I am currently homeschooling my two oldest children (1st grade and Kindergarten).)

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.I have experience tutoring children with dyslexia and dysgraphia
I needed an English tutor for my daughter. She tutored her in mechanics and grammar for one year and two years in Literature and preparing her for college level essay writing. She has done an excellent job. My daughter went from hating the subject to finding out she really loves to write. She is now enrolled in her second Composition college class. She is a great teacher and takes the time to explain the subject well, along with giving great examples. She has great balance of encouraging but also challenging the student. She knows when to push the student to not give up but can be patient when there is a difficult moment.
Most recently, Mrs. Dooley tutored my child to help improve her score on the math portion of the SAT. As a result, my child improved her score by 200 points and received the top tier of our state’s college scholarship. Previously, to help lighten my teaching load, Mrs. Dooley tutored my child in creative writing using the IEW program. Later, she tutored her in Latin, followed by Spanish, meeting our need for tutoring in foreign languages beyond my own proficiency. Courtney Dooley is a skilled teacher with expertise in areas even beyond her English degree. She is excellent at teaching writing and other language subjects, which are areas of strength for my child. When it came to preparing for the math portion of the SAT, she was extremely helpful in explaining mathematical concepts to my child in ways that she could understand and retain.
