I have experience teaching in a classroom and tutoring one-on-one at an Ivy League school. I love teaching because I want the I get to show kids how much fun learning can be, even when it's hard. Perhaps that is when it is the most rewarding! I have a bachelor's degree in biology, so I am skilled at math, physics, chemistry, and especially biology. I am currently pursuing a PhD in crop science, so I have a very diverse academic background which I have found to be useful in teaching. When not teaching, I enjoy walking my dog or playing video games.

Educational Approach
I work through a few example problems in front of them, pointing out common mistakes and important details, then having them try some problems on their own, helping as needed. This usually involves me making a practice problem set beforehand, and sometimes a note set to refer to while working. This works well with subjects like physics, math, chemistry, and sometimes biology. This approach doesn't always translate well to biology, so that requires a different approach sometimes, like demonstrations or stories that relate to the material for better understanding.
Education level
I have a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Cornell University and am currently pursuing a PhD in crop science from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
Teaching Experience
I have only formally taught college-aged students as a TA or in one-on-one tutoring. However, I have worked with kids through various programs at my local church.
The goal is understanding, not memorizing! Understanding builds confidence!
My Story
When I was in undergrad, a professor I really liked needed a TA. He showed up on the first day of class with entrance music and a costume, which is rather silly for a college professor! However, it definitely made me pay attention and held my attention the entire class. I liked how engaging he was when he taught, so he inspired me to provide that same experience to other students.
Cognitive Diversity
How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.
Approach to personalization
How adaptable is tutor to students with different cognitive needs?
I do not have any experience teaching children with special needs, but I volunteered at an adult daycare in high school. Many of the adults had special needs or disabilities.
