After graduating college with a degree in art, I became the sole math tutor at the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Education Department. I tutored over twenty students after school every day! Once my husband and I moved to a different city, I was hired to teach at a Classical Hybrid school and while there I taught Geometry, Algebra I, PreAlgebra, 6th Grade Math, and 5th Grade Math. I've also been tutoring online for several years, helping students prepare to apply for elite private schools. Math is my favorite subject because we have the capability to check our work and ensure our answer is true. I love that feeling of confidence and security, and I'd love to help you feel more confident when it comes to math.

Monday through Friday 6am-9am CST CST

When teaching, I utilize the following steps: 1) I solve, You observe 2) We solve together 3) You solve, I observe. This format allows students to gradually take ownership of the lesson and helps to ensure they remain engaged and attentive.

I also ask a lot of questions during the session, such as "What do you think we should do next?" This helps students to begin forming their own internal dialogue and begin developing the capability to walk themselves through complex problems on their own.

I graduated college with a Bachelors of Science degree in Art and a minor in Public Relations. I have also published the first three books in a series teaching 3 to 5 year olds how to read phonetically.

I have taught or tutored mathematics for over twelve years, including students from preK all the way through 11th grade. In high school I tutored my peers in math, in college I tutored students in ACT math prep in a program called Upward Bound, and after college I tutored students primarily kindergarten through 8th grade at the PBCI Education Department. I have tutored online over five years through freelance and contracted tutoring and helped students increase their math capabilities in order to apply for elite private schools.

My mission

My goal as a teacher is for students to become more confident in their ability to solve problems. I ask students solve questions along with me. This helps them to think critically, take ownership, and engage well in the lesson.

My Story

In middle school my friends would often ask me to explain our math assignment. I discovered I had a natural gift for teaching complex concepts. Although I went to college with the goal of learning art and design, I continued to tutor and teach mathematics through an organization called Upward Bound. Shortly after graduating, I was honored to receive the role of sole math tutor at the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and I have been teaching and tutoring math ever since!

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

During my time at Cypress Grove Academy I had a couple students with dyscalculia. I learned how to design documents such as handouts and tests to be more spacious and less overwhelming to the eye. My son was diagnosed with autism shortly after he turned two and as I have attuned to his needs, I have developed an intuitive approach to communication. I often know beforehand when certain statements or phrasing could cause confusion or be taken literally.

I believe my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for children who are 2e. During my time tutoring with E Planet Kids, I have worked with students who are exceptionally bright who also demonstrate stimming behaviors or ADHD tendencies.

I believe my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for gifted students. During my time at Cypress Grove Academy, I learned to incorporate challenging problems into the lesson to engage students who are gifted and curious learners.

My tutoring sessions are a great fit for profoundly gifted students. During my time tutoring with E Planet Kids, I have worked with students who are profoundly gifted and move through their lessons at a highly advanced pace. My sessions are crafted to each individual and when a student is ready, I will challenge them to their highest capacity.

I think my sessions may be a good fit for children with ADHD. I ask a lot of questions during the lesson to help them stay engaged and attentive. I have ADHD myself, and I tend to move quickly through a lesson whenever possible.

I think my tutoring sessions could be a good fit for children on the autism spectrum. My son was diagnosed with autism three years ago and I have learned a lot about utilizing clear communication.

I'm not sure if my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for children with dyslexia. The students I have worked with in the past had dyscalculia.

I believe my tutoring sessions would be a good fit for children with sensory processing challenges. My sessions are visually calm and do not include loud or discordant auditory noises.

Krista taught my daughter 6th grade math and pre-algebra. I saw my daughter go from a struggling and unsure math student to a much more confident and capable math student over those 2 years. It was a great experience for my daughter!

Above and Beyond

Krista taught 2 of my children. She taught Pre-algebra and 6th grade math to my daughter for two years. Under her teaching, my daughter was able to excel in math skills, perform excellent results on a CLT, and she felt confident in math both years. My son took 5th grade math with Krista, and he also excelled under her guidance. Both kids said she was patient, communicated clearly, and did a great job explaining how to solve problems. Both kids enjoyed her class, and we loved her as a teacher. She went above and beyond!
