Laetitia D.
I grew up in Belgium and when I was still little my family and I moved to New York City. Being immersed in a new culture and new language wasn't easy. My teachers were wonderful and patient, especially my ESL teacher whom I later met again while working in a language school! I knew very early on that I wanted to teach languages and after high school spent a summer teaching English in Asia. In college, I earned a double major in French and Italian literature and then started working as a private tutor, an Italian teacher, a preschool teaching assistant and an English teacher. I love teaching online because it allows me to connect with children all over the world and share my passion for languages with them! When not teaching I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, traveling and learning Portuguese!

My educational approach is warm, patient, and student-centered. I believe in creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and growing at their own pace. I draw inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which values curiosity, creativity, and learning through meaningful experiences. Whether I’m teaching French or ESL, I focus on making lessons engaging, interactive, and tailored to each student’s unique needs and interests.

I earned a double major in French and Italian literature in college, which gave me a strong foundation in language, culture, and communication—something I bring into every lesson I teach.

I’ve been tutoring for many years, starting with a summer teaching English in Asia after high school. Since then, I’ve worked as a private tutor, an Italian teacher, a preschool teaching assistant, and an English teacher. I’ve taught students of all ages and backgrounds, and I love connecting with learners through engaging, personalized lessons—especially in French and ESL.

My mission
My mission is to help students feel confident, curious, and empowered as language learners. I want every child I work with to know that learning a new language is not just about vocabulary and grammar—it’s about connection, culture, and discovering new ways to see the world. Whether a student is just beginning or already advanced, my goal is to meet them where they are, support their growth, and make the learning process joyful, personalized, and meaningful.

My Story
When I moved from Belgium to New York as a kid, learning a new language in a completely new culture was a challenge, but it also sparked something in me. I still remember the kindness of my ESL teacher, and years later, I ran into her while working at a language school myself. That moment reminded me why I chose this path. Teaching languages has taken me across continents and into classrooms big and small, and I feel lucky every day to help kids find their voice in a new language.
Cognitive Diversity
How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.I always take the time to get to know each learner—their interests, strengths, challenges, and goals—so I can adapt my lessons to fit their unique learning style. For kids with special needs, I focus on building trust and consistency, using clear structure and multisensory activities to support their engagement and confidence. With gifted learners, I offer enrichment through open-ended questions, cultural exploration, and deeper language work that challenges them intellectually. Whether a child needs more support or more stretch, I adjust my pace, materials, and approach to make sure they feel seen, supported, and excited to learn.
It's hard to find words to express how much I love Laetitia, both as an educator, and as a colleague building Modulo alongside me. Laetitia first joined the Modulo team nearly three years ago when I was looking for the world's best French teacher. I was immediately struck by her engaging, bright nature and hired her on the spot. Since then, I have come to know her much better as a teacher: her passion for teaching, her subtle understanding of the unique complexities of each individual child, her deep compassion for children and their families blow me away every day. She has since then become the chief learning specialist at Modulo and brings the same care and fierce intelligence to guiding our tutor community that she brings to teaching kids. If there's one thing I know, Laetitia will exceed your expectations as a teacher and I give her my highest recommendation.
My goals for hiring a tutor were to improve my children's ability to speak in French given that my family are not native French speakers. The tutoring that my kids receive from Laetitia has resulted in tremendous growth and confidence in my children's French skills. Laetitia’s classes strike an excellent balance between providing challenging material to her students, but still manage to be fun and engaging.
Laetitia is a very patient teacher who is great at connecting with her students and encourages them in learning a new language. I’ve also seen tremendous growth in my children’s French skills since they’ve been taking Laetitia’s classes, including increased confidence in speaking in French, and improvements in their vocabulary and ability to read in French. Lastly, Laetitia gives me regular updates and feedback on my children’s progress. Nothing. Laetitia is a great teacher. I've used other tutors and did not have the same results that I've seen with Laetitia.
