My approach to teaching is centered on creating a warm, supportive, and engaging learning environment where each student feels confident and capable. I believe in meeting students where they are—building on their strengths while identifying and addressing areas for growth through individualized instruction. I use a balance of explicit teaching, guided practice, and interactive activities to make learning meaningful and enjoyable. I also emphasize the development of strong reading and writing skills, critical thinking, and a growth mindset. Above all, my goal is to help students gain not only academic skills but also confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

I graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Elementary Education and I also hold a master's degree as a Reading Specialist from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I have a Pennsylvania Certificate for Elementary Education K-6, Early Childhood Pre-K-4 and a Reading Specialist Certification for K-12.

I have many years of tutoring experience. I have tutored privately, tutored in schools and after school programs, as well as teaching reading in a classroom.

My mission

My mission as a tutor is to help each student discover their own confidence, curiosity, and love of learning. I’m inspired by the moment when a concept “clicks” for a child—when they realize they can do it and begin to see themselves as capable learners. I’m passionate about meeting students where they are, celebrating their unique strengths, and giving them the tools and encouragement to grow academically and personally. Knowing that I can make a difference in a child’s learning journey—and help them build skills that last a lifetime—is what truly inspires me to tutor.

My Story

My story begins with a lifelong love of learning—and especially a deep love of reading that has inspired everything I do as an educator. After earning my degree in elementary education and a master’s in reading, I spent many years as a preschool director, where I discovered the magic of early learning and the power of play. When my own children grew older, I followed my heart back into the classroom, where I now teach English Language Arts to third graders. Along the way, I’ve worked with diverse learners, including students with ASD, ADHD, and sensory needs, and have seen firsthand how unique every child’s mind can be. Whether I’m guiding young readers through a story, helping a student find their voice in writing, or sharing my love of books and nature, my goal has always been the same—to spark joy, confidence, and a lifelong passion for learning.

Cognitive Diversity

How I adapt to students with diverse intellectual needs.

I believe every child learns in their own unique way, and recognizing that diversity of thinking is key to helping them thrive. When I personalize lessons, I start by observing how each student processes information—whether they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners—and then tailor my instruction and materials to fit their learning style. For students with learning differences, I focus on breaking skills into manageable steps, using multi-sensory approaches, and celebrating small successes to build confidence and motivation. With gifted students, I provide enrichment through higher-level questioning, creative problem-solving, and opportunities for deeper exploration. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a range of learners, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and autism, as well as advanced readers who need more challenge. This experience has strengthened my belief that with the right support, structure, and encouragement, every child can experience success and joy in learning.

Several of my students have ADHD, and I intentionally use a variety of strategies to support their focus and success. In my classroom, I incorporate movement breaks, clear and consistent routines, and visual schedules to help with transitions and attention. I also provide chunked instructions, frequent positive feedback, and hands-on, engaging activities to keep students motivated and involved in their learning.

I have extensive experience working with children on the autism spectrum and have spent several summers teaching in a specialized ASD school. These experiences deepened my understanding of diverse learning needs and strengthened my ability to create structured, supportive, and engaging lessons that help every child succeed.

Several of my students have sensory processing differences, and I strive to create a calm, supportive learning environment that meets their needs. I use flexible seating options, provide quiet corners or sensory tools when needed, and incorporate movement and mindfulness breaks throughout the day. I’m mindful of lighting, noise levels, and textures in the classroom to help students stay comfortable and focused, ensuring they feel safe and ready to learn.
