Misha is a bilingual English-Japanese tutor with a natural talent for making language learning fun and relevant. She connects lessons to each student’s daily life—like cooking, hobbies, or travel—to help vocabulary and grammar come alive. Certified with TESOL and fluent in Japanese, she’s worked with learners on both sides of the language exchange and brings patience and creativity to every session. Misha’s teaching blends culture, conversation, and real-world context so students speak naturally and confidently. When not tutoring, she’s a passionate figure skater and loves chatting about the sport with her students.

I like to tailor my approach to the goals of the student, but generally, I start by teaching things that the student does in their daily life. For example, if they like to cook, I can start by teaching them different ingredients, cooking methods, etc. I also like to use this method where I teach one sentence but change out the words in the sentence so they end up learning multiple sentences in one sitting. I'm a believer in teaching culture along with the language, so I'll teach both formal and conversational ways to say a phrase. When it comes to building sentences, I like to review what they know about each component of the sentence and help them to build a grammatically and socially correct sentence.
I have a high school diploma as well as a 40 hour TESOL Certificate.
I've had to opportunity to tutor my brother and many friends. Most of my friends have been in Japan (learning English) but I've talk English speakers Japanese as well.
I love seeing people determined to learn a language. When I meet non-native people speaking fluent Japanese/English, it makes me so happy and makes me cheer them on in their learning process. The thought that I can help them to be a relatively fluent speaker, or be even more fluent is what makes tutoring really worth it for me.
I've had the opportunity to help my friend who's been diagnosed with ADHD with her homework for her Japanese class in school.
