DK Find Out
Best for curious kids in roughly grades 2–6 who enjoy short, visual reference articles
Curious kids pepper parents with questions that range from volcanoes to Vikings, and it’s not always feasible to pull a full book for every topic. DK Find Out is one of our favorite child-friendly reference sites for quick, visual answers that still feel substantial. Created by the same publisher behind DK’s beloved photo-rich books, the website hosts short articles, diagrams, quizzes, and interactive elements across dozens of subjects from animals to engineering. We love how clean and inviting the pages are, with just enough text for elementary readers and plenty of labeled images to support non-readers or English learners. It’s ideal as a first stop for upper-elementary students doing research, or as a safe “rabbit hole” site for kids who like to click and explore. There are occasional ads and the depth can’t match full encyclopedias, but as a free supplement it’s excellent value. Pro tip: show kids how to bookmark favorite topic pages into a “Research” folder they can revisit during unit studies.
