Green Kid Crafts offers monthly themed kits containing 4–6 STEAM and art projects, plus a 12-page educational magazine. Families open the kit and follow clear, open-and-go instructions using the included eco-friendly materials. The activities are designed to be done over several days or weeks, easily fitting into a homeschool routine or rainy-day project plan. Many parents integrate the kits into weekly science/art time, often extending themes with library books, nature walks, or outdoor experiments, making each kit both flexible and enriching. The approach reflects play- and inquiry-based pedagogy, emphasizing tinkering, creativity, and environmental literacy rather than strict Montessori or Waldorf methodology.

Our mission

The mission of Green Kid Crafts is to foster environmental awareness and creativity through STEM and art activities that are both engaging and sustainable. Green Kid Crafts strives to eliminate single-use waste in children’s projects by using recycled and natural materials, planting a tree for every order, and modeling eco-friendly practices in each kit. What makes it unique is its focus on planet-positive learning—combining science, art, and environmental stewardship in one monthly experience.

Our story

Green Kid Crafts was founded in 2010 by Penny Bauder, an environmental scientist–turned–entrepreneur, who was inspired to create eco-friendly, STEAM-based kits after seeing a need for sustainable, hands-on learning tools. With a background in climate science, invasive species biology, and conservation, Penny began packaging nature-inspired crafts out of her home and has since shipped over 1.5 million kits worldwide. The company has earned numerous awards—like the Parents’ Choice Award®, Eco-Excellence Award, Academics’ Choice Brain Toy Award, multiple Dr. Toy Best Green Toys awards, and accolades from Green America’s People & Planet award—solidifying its reputation as a leader in green educational products

FAQ: Additional Details about Green Kid Crafts

When your Green Kid Crafts box arrives, it feels like opening a mini nature museum in a box. Inside, you’ll find themed eco-art and STEM projects, like building a wind-powered car or crafting a rainforest habitat diorama. Families often start by exploring the colorful activity guide, then dive into one or two hands-on projects that spark curiosity and lead naturally into conversations about the environment, animals, or science concepts. Many families follow up with a nature walk or storytime that ties into the theme, making it a full-sensory experience that blends creativity, learning, and real-world connection.

Green Kid Crafts is ideal for children aged 3–10 who thrive on hands-on exploration, creativity, and nature-based learning. It appeals especially to imaginative, tactile learners who enjoy crafts and outdoor science, and to families who want screen-free, eco-conscious activities that stimulate curiosity and environmental stewardship.

It may not be a good match for older children seeking rigorous academics or full studies curriculum, or for families preferring minimal prep without craft mess. Kids uninterested in art or nature may find the focus less engaging, and those needing highly structured, assessment-heavy programs may see the kit as supplemental rather than foundational.

Many families of children with sensory sensitivities, ADHD, and fine motor delays report Green Kid Crafts works well because of its tactile materials, flexible pacing, and multisensory approach that engages without overwhelming.

Tangible, creative kits appeal to gifted kids who love arts and science, though parents say it’s best used as a springboard for deeper inquiry rather than the centerpiece of enrichment.

None—all age-appropriate materials and instructions are self-contained in the kits for ages 3–10.

Subscriptions can be canceled anytime; refunds for unopened boxes depend on timing and vendor policy—families should check terms before purchase.

Families suggest making Green Kid Crafts part of a regular “STEAM hour” each week, using a tray or bin to contain projects and minimize cleanup. They often pair each kit with a nature walk or read-aloud related to the theme and encourage kids to take the lead in choosing materials. Saving the included magazine and project images in a binder supports reflection and reinforces learning over time, helping kids connect craft with science and environment.
