8th Grade Social Studies

Eighth grade social studies often ties together big themes from earlier years, helping students think more critically about history, government, and current events. Our 8th Grade Social Studies collection brings together vetted, secular resources for homeschoolers, afterschooling families, and caregivers teaching learners around ages 13–14. You’ll find curricula focused on U.S. history, civics and government, or global studies, plus primary-source-based programs, simulations, and tutors who facilitate thoughtful discussion. Every resource is reviewed for historical accuracy, inclusive perspectives, and age-appropriate rigor so teens can analyze causes and consequences, not just memorize answers. Use the filters to sort by focus area (US history, civics, world history, or geography), format (books, unit studies, online courses, or project-based programs), and learner profile, including ADHD, dyslexia, autism, giftedness, or 2e. Many families also connect 8th grade social studies to civic action or personal heritage projects. If you’re unsure how to structure this year, Modulo’s AI learning concierge can help you select social studies resources that match your teen and your goals.

Living-History Education Program
Woodland Indian Educational Programs
No reviews
Woodland Indian Educational Programs is a Native-run educational service that focuses on Eastern Woodlands Indigenous cultures. The group designs programs for museums, historic sites, schools, powwows, and cultural centers, often using living-history-style demonstrations to teach about housing, clothing, tools, agriculture, and diplomacy. Presenters bring maps, material-culture displays, and carefully researched outfits, and they also offer staff trainings for teachers and docents. The goal is to replace stereotypes and generic “Native American” lessons with tribally grounded information and to show that Woodlands Nations have complex, ongoing histories and present-day communities, not just a distant past.

Venice Jewish Ghetto

The Venice Jewish Ghetto, officially established in 1516 in the Cannaregio district, is often cited as the first legally mandated Jewish ghetto and the origin of the word “ghetto.” For centuries, Jews of different backgrounds were required to live inside its gates, locked at night, leading to unusually tall houses as the community grew upward. Despite restrictions, it became a vibrant center of Hebrew printing, scholarship, and commerce. Today, visitors can see several historic synagogues and the Jewish Museum of Venice, making the neighborhood a powerful place to study Jewish life, resilience, and European antisemitism across time.
